Portugal Has Already Requested the Sixth RRP Check from Brussels

Portugal has submitted the sixth PRR payment request, worth 1.67 billion euros, to the European Commission. This request is linked to the fulfillment of 30 targets and milestones, but not all of them have been met, which has led the government to proceed with a reprogramming of the RRP.

Application Submitted Without Meeting All Milestones
The payment request submitted to the European Commission includes 22 milestones and 8 targets, but some milestones were not met on time. Among the missing milestones are contracts for the purchase of ferries in the Azores and for the construction of a light rail system. This is not the first time that Portugal has submitted a request without meeting all the milestones, but this time a reprogramming will be sent to adjust the deviations.

The reprogramming of the RRP and the deviations
The reprogramming of the RRP aims to correct the deviations identified and ensure that the investments not executed are replaced or removed from the plan. Reprogramming is a tool provided for in the European regulation and will be essential to ensure the overall implementation of the RRP without losing funds. Portugal has already met 17 targets and milestones, but there are still 9 to be completed and 4 that will be changed.

Double funding issues resolved
One of the obstacles that delayed the analysis of the applications was the issue of double funding, raised after it was suspected that a bus was being funded by two EU programs. However, this issue has now been resolved and the European Commission is now carrying out internal validations. The green light to pay the sixth application will be given after this validation phase.

With the aim of guaranteeing a 40% execution rate by the end of the year, the Portuguese government continues to work to meet the PRR's targets and avoid losing essential funds for the country's development.
