Starting in 2025, the Portuguese government will step up support for companies setting up in the interior of the country, as a way of combating the differences in development between the coast and the interior. The measure aims to attract investment to low-density regions by offering more advantageous conditions.
Differentiation in support: A New Horizon for the Interior
Investments in the interior will receive non-repayable support of up to 50%, while on the coast the maximum will be 30%. For example, an investment of 10 million euros in the interior will be able to count on up to 5 million euros in European funds, while on the coast support will be limited to 3 million euros.
Promoting Job Creation and People Retention
The government hopes that the creation of good jobs in inland regions will be essential for attracting and retaining people in those areas. The goal is that, while the coast grows by 2% a year, the interior will grow by 3%.
Complementary Measures: The European Union and Territorial Investment
In addition, 40% of the European funds that Portugal will receive by 2030 will be earmarked for specific tenders for companies located in low-density territories, reinforcing support for regional development.
These measures aim to balance the country's development, offering more opportunities in the interior and creating conditions for sustainable and inclusive growth.
