Seeds on Wheels: A movement that educates, connects and inspires
Seeds on Wheels was born from the belief that food is much more than a biological act: it is a common good, an essential need and, above all, a great social connector. It is the universal language that crosses cultures, generations and borders.
- Through Pop-Up events (creative and temporary), the movement aims to:
- Raise awareness of the impacts of the food system on human and planetary health;
- Educate for more sustainable food choices;
- Connect local communities;
- Strengthen the sense of community belonging;
- Activate public space;
- Inspire more conscious lifestyles.
Each edition is unique and co-created with local agents, adapting to the territory and its communities. The vision is clear: to build resilience, awareness and unity through the power of food, treated as critical infrastructure for learning, expression and urban and territorial regeneration.
European recognition
The award granted by the European Urban Bites program confirms the impact and relevance of Seeds on Wheels at an international level. This distinction reinforces not only the importance of the movement but also the role of partners and sponsors in realizing a vision that places food at the center of urban life, art and climate action.
Urban Bites is funded by CREA “Feed Your Future – Engaging Youth for Creative Climate Action”, coordinated by the Municipality of Milan and implemented by a consortium of 8 partners, including the DLBC Lisbon Network in Portugal. The Grants Committee was responsible for evaluating proposals submitted to the Open Call “Urban Bites: Artistic Performances for Climate Action” (2025–2026), which supports public artistic performances led by young people and civil society, focusing on food systems and climate action.
The call was open from April 28 to June 08, 2025, and eligibility criteria were published in the application regulations on the DLBC Lisbon Network website. Applications were selected through a merit-based evaluation, after verifying compliance with the formal requirements. In total, 31 applications were received. Of these, 22 were considered eligible and 9 were excluded based on the eligibility criteria.
Ferro e Fogo: Art and food as tools for transformation
The winning project, “SOW Ferro e Fogo: Food and arts as a transformative tool”, was promoted by the association ACSA – Feeding Sustainable Cities, and won over the jury with its innovative vision: transforming the way communities relate to food through pop-up events and tactical placemaking, uniting art, food education and community participation in urban areas with fewer opportunities.
The project will take place at Quinta do Ferro, in Lisbon, a multicultural territory marked by challenges of social exclusion and lack of opportunities. Over two days, the space will be transformed into a stage of experimentation, with creative workshops, artistic performances, collective meals and moments of co-creation with young artists and residents.
More than an event, it is a grassroots urban regeneration process that values the existing ecosystem of local initiatives and creates new dynamics of meeting and belonging through art and food.
Start PME: A sponsor aligned with the mission
Start PME's involvement as a strategic sponsor of the Seeds on Wheels movement reinforces the transformative dimension of this reflection platform. With a mission strongly linked to innovation, sustainability and social responsibility, Start PME sees in Seeds on Wheels a perfect ally: a project that combines sustainable food, urban regeneration and climate action, in line with its values. By supporting this initiative, Start PME helps amplify local voices, inspire changes in food habits and promote fairer and more resilient cities. By supporting an initiative that integrates artistic performances, reflection on sustainability and vulnerable communities, Start PME helps generate critical dialogue on climate change mitigation and serves as a lever for urban revitalization. Art, in turn, offers a powerful lens to raise awareness and engage citizens from different backgrounds and, by investing in this convergence, Start PME demonstrates its commitment and embraces the promotion of sustainability, inclusion, innovation and territorial regeneration, elements that give it added relevance as a strategic partner in the transformation towards a fairer and more resilient future.
